Dear Reader

Dear reader,

For the past several months, I have been trying to cultivate the perfect blog content for Iris. It has been, in short, a nightmare.

As a company, we rally around the mantra “whatever your reason”, so focusing on the subject of porn runs the risk of alienating some of those who are just seeking help, or even becoming a field in which my personal bias can grow. We are not here to convince you that porn is bad, we are here to block your porn, if that’s what you want. I don’t fancy myself a preacher or a moral orator, and I don’t wish to present myself as such. Plus, focusing on negatives day in and day out is really exhausting.

We use machine learning to block pornography, but I am not a data scientist, developer, or anyone else who may have an in-depth understanding of what that means. There are so many amazing technological blogs out there, that trying to focus on that aspect of what we do would be embarrassing for us, both because of my tenuous grasp on the intricacies, but also because those tech blog giants have probably already reported anything I could produce.

So where does that leave us? Where does that leave the audience of Iris, with their various motivations leading them to click on the blog link? Hopefully, in a position to have some amazing conversations.

I have a lot of aspirations for this blog. I want it to be a place where those searching for a way to eradicate pornography from their devices come, engage with a supportive community through polite discourse, and leave having learned something, or thought about something in a new way. I want it to be a place where minds grow and hearts change. I want it to be a place for you.

I will write about cool stuff being done with AI and machine learning. I will write about porn, sometimes in a heavy way, and sometimes from a lighter perspective. There will be times when you will not like what I have to say, and that’s OK. This blog is here for you to engage with Iris, to tell us what you think, and why you clicked on that blog link in the first place. This is the place where we learn what your reason is, and hopefully, learn to serve it better.

-Samantha
